Coerver Coaching
In our coaching we strive to improve skills, encourage creativity and establish an attacking mentality. We place the enjoyment and improvment of all our players as the first priority, and that is why we aim to develop our young players through the Coerver Coaching curriculum.
The Coerver Philosophy is based on the premise that the game consists of sequences of play between 2, 3 and sometimes 4 players, in various parts of the field, and that Team success is determined by player performances in these exchanges. Team systems and tactics are important but they cannot fully compensate for poor control, inaccurate passing or other technical weaknesses. Ultimately team organisation is only as effective as the individual players in it.
The Coerver method concentrates on improving individual skills and small-group play, especially in the formative years. The method uses uses a pyramid approach called the "Pyramid of Player Development" which consists of six building blocks:-
The Pyramid Approach, combined with the Coerver Coaching philosophy of graduated pressure, allows players to quickly gain confidence and progress through the interconnected levels of the game.
BALL MASTERY:
1 player 1 ball. Repetition exercises with both feet to develop touch and control.
RECEIVING and PASSING:Exercises & games to improve 1st touch and encourage accurate and creative passing.
MOVES (1 v 1):
Exercises and games that teach game winning individual moves that can create space against the most packed of defences. This section of the pyramid can itself be sub-divided into:
- Changes of Direction
- Fakes or Feints
- Stops and Starts
SPEED:
Exercise & games to improve agility, acceleration and power with and without the ball.
FINISHING:Practice & games that improve technique and encourage instinctive play around the goal.
GROUP PLAY:
Exercises and games that improve small-group combination play with an emphasis on fast break attacks.
